There are thousands of mushroom species in eastern North America. These fungi come in all sorts of interesting shapes, sizes and colours. Even their names are unique and intriguing. But how do you tell them apart, know which ones are edible and which ones are toxic, and more?
Join us and popular outdoor educator and avid forager Stephan Lukacic for a deep dive into the science, ecology, and methodology of modern mushroom hunting and identification. This short, intensive workshop is designed to demystify wild mushrooms, giving you a solid foundation on which to build future naturalist skills. Following a thorough and engaging seminar, we’ll hike around High Park to try our hand at identifying wild mushrooms.
This workshop is best suited for adults and teenagers ages 16 and above.
NOTE: We will not be foraging for mushrooms in High Park. Foraging is not permitted in city, provincial or national parks. Many nature reserves, conservation areas and forests also do not allow foraging. Be sure to research foraging and harvesting laws in the different places you visit. When legally engaging in foraging, we encourage you to not overharvest, take only what you need and also give back to nature.
