ADULTS
MONDAY
Ceramics | 1:00-3:30 pm - $446.35
Create functional handmade ceramic pieces using air-dry clay and embellish them by adding natural botanical imprints. Find your inspiration through nature and create pieces with handpicked leaves, flowers, or lace to bespoke tableware from scratch. If you prefer to use firing clay, you can fire them on your stove at home! The course fee includes materials and supplies.
Watercolour Painting | 7:00 - 9:00 pm - $406.80
Expand your watercolour/guache techniques in this step-by-step approach to colour theory and painting. Building from a series of exercises in colour mixing, brushwork, and learning about negative space painting, botanicals, flowers and portraits using a dry brush and wet-on-wet techniques. Subject matter will range from still-life to landscapes, to the student's own choice of imagery.
Materials are not included, a supply list will be sent out to students in advance.
TUESDAY
Advanced Drawing and Painting | 12:00 - 3:00 pm - $406.80
In this advanced painting course, students will use opaque mediums such as acrylic paint and demonstrate greater control of value and chroma in rendering objects in space, with the option of exploring hues inspired by Munsell's colour theory. Students will have the opportunity to paint from a live model for two classes. Acrylic paint will be the common medium used but if a student prefers gouache or oil, this can be accommodated. This course is suitable for someone with some experience in painting and drawing. Materials are not included, a supply list will be sent out to students in advance.
Figure Drawing | Ages 15 to adults | 7:00 - 9:30 pm - $508.50
Students with a high level of maturity can enjoy this Instructed nude figure drawing course. Students will demonstrate the use of correct proportion, perspective and a basic understanding of anatomy to produce an accurate drawing of a person. The media will focus on conté and charcoal. The course fee includes general materials, supplies and the modelling fee.
WEDNESDAY
ASC Independent Drawing and Painting | 12:30 - 3:30 pm - $406.80
This course is for those students with Autism Spectrum Condition who have taken drawing or painting before and now wish to develop their ideas, style and techniques more independently. An instructor will be available to assist, guide, and discuss questions relating to any part of the process. With the small class, students are encouraged to explore and take risks in their work. Materials are not included, a supply list will be sent out to students in advance.
Observational Drawing and Painting | 7:00 - 9:00 pm - $406.80
This class is ideal for the beginner-intermediate student interested in skill building. Students will learn both traditional and experimental art techniques through a step-by-step process. With a focus on observational drawing and painting using objects from life, such as still life, plants and figures. Mediums used included are watercolour painting, pencil, charcoal and more. Materials are not included, a supply list will be sent out to students in advance.
THURSDAY
Introduction to Drawing | 12:30 - 3:30 pm - $406.80
This class is ideal for the complete beginner-intermediate student interested in skill building. The course focuses on a new medium anchored by drawing and painting. Students will learn both traditional and experimental art techniques through a step-by-step process by sketching from life and learning to see their subject by practicing key exercises such as contour drawing, and renderings with an emphasis on perspective, proportion and value to develop their skills. This introductory course will demonstrate different strategies for rendering subjects in pencil conté and charcoal, with an emphasis on perspective, proportion and value.

TUESDAY
Drawing, Painting & Intro to Multimedia Sculpture | Ages 10-16

This class is ideal for the complete beginner interested in skill building. Each term focuses on a new medium anchored by drawing and painting and multimedia sculpture. Students will learn both traditional and experimental art techniques through a step-by-step process. FALL TERM: Students will sketch from life and learn to see their subject by practicing key exercises such as contour drawing and renderings with an emphasis on perspective, proportion and value to develop their skills. WINTER TERM: Introduction to Sculpture enables students to create a fantasy character or portrait of their choosing. Sculptural techniques will be demonstrated to create a 1/4 scale model. The key component will include armature building, modelling of the face and hands, and soft-sculpting of the body as well as costume sewing and basic wig making. This 8-week course is a fun introduction, students will end the term with one fully completed 3D creation. SPRING TERM: Using paint, students will demonstrate how value and colour are used to create the illusion of an object in space. They will mix sophisticated palettes inspired by Munsell colour charts and paint simple subjects from life. Acrylic paint will be a common choice, but if a student prefers gouache or oil, this can be accommodated. Weather permitting; students will also be encouraged to work outdoors in the natural habitat for some projects.

Observational Drawing & Painting | Ages 10-16

This course focuses on both skill-building and exploration of traditional and contemporary techniques in drawing, painting and mixed media. Explore the beauty and richness of all kinds of materials as you create dynamic multi-layered works of art. Learn to see and think like a designer, using composition, form, colour, and texture to express your own personal vision. Develop an amazing ability for observing, imagining and communicating in visual language. Sketchbook Development for Drawing and Painting | Ages 11-16

Exploring various topics, illustrators, and artists, students learn a range of illustration, drawing and painting techniques to develop their own unique illustrations using what they've learned as inspiration. This class will incorporate a range of drawing using various supplies such as charcoal, Conte, china markers, oil pastels and more. Practising techniques to draw a face, figure and different environments through imagery or if weather permitting, exploring the outdoors to draw urban landscapes, architecture and wilderness.

Drawing, Painting, and Illustrating | Ages 7-10

Working from a variety of subjects, students will develop their studio skills with an emphasis on traditional approaches to drawing and painting. Fundamentals in drawing will include gesture, contour, composition, tonal values, and perspective and through painting, students will learn colour mixing, application and descriptive use of colour. This technique-based program will inspire young artists and give them the tools they need to enhance their learning through the arts.

Illustrating Cartoon Characters | Ages 8-12

Create and design characters and narrate their stories through comic strips and the graphic novel format using materials such as markers, pencil crayons, and paper. Students will reference popular graphic novels and manga artists. Students will develop their illustration skills through a range of lessons that include facial expressions, movement and speed lines, panel structure, two-tone colouring, and cultural interpretation. This is a perfect class for students that love cartooning and want to learn more through the dynamic world of comics and manga while using accessible materials to create amazing narrative art pieces!
Exploring Drawing, Painting & Sculpture Techniques | Ages 7-10

In this step-by-step approach, students will explore various mediums and painting techniques to express their creative ideas and build a strong artistic mindset. During this 8-week course, students will learn and improve their drawing skills, and watercolour painting techniques are introduced to the art of air dry clay.
